URGENT - CLOSURE OF BRETTON EDGE ROAD

GREAT HUCKLOW, GRINDLOW, WINDMILL, LTTLE HUCKLOW AND COPLOWDALE PARISH COUNCIL

URGENT - CLOSURE OF BRETTON EDGE ROAD

Villagers who regularly drive out of Great Hucklow in the direction of the Barrel Inn will be aware of the short section of road which has sunk just down hill of Little Plumpton Cottage.

The uneven surface has got very much worse in the last week and now represents a serious risk of injury to (particularly) cyclists (of which there are a great many who use this route) but also to car drivers who approach with any speed.

Derbyshire County Council have this morning taken the decision to close the road on the grounds of public safety. The road will be blocked with bollards immediately up-hill of the Camphill Lane turning and just the other side (uphill) of the damaged section. This will allow the lorries which are filling the large void on the hillside above Camphill Lane to continue to access their work site.

THIS MEANS THERE WILL BE NO DIRECT ACCESS TO BRETTON EDGE OR THE BARREL INN VIA THE ROAD WHICH LEAVES Gt HUCKLOW IN AN EASTERLY DIRECTION. The alternative route will be to travel into Foolow and use Bradshaw Lane. Access to Abney and the Gliding Club from Great Hucklow will be unaffected.

DCC are hoping to find a temporary solution which will allow them to re-open the road in the interim although it's not yet clear how long It will take for this to be implemented. It is likely to be a few weeks rather than a few days. A full repair will have wait until there can be a proper ground investigation and the road surface has stopped moving.

We will provide updates via the Parish Newsletter when we can.
